PAST / THE LAND REMEMBERS
This is Burramattagal Country. A living cultural landscape, with many histories and continuing connections. Follow a few chapters in a much longer story.

Long before the colonial buildings, Aboriginal people met here and cared for this landscape. The river sits at the heart of its cultural story. These connections continue.
Government House and its Domain introduced a new colonial use of the land. Their history is also a history of convict labour and the profound impacts of colonisation.
The cottages, gardens and working landscape hold other perspectives on daily life. The Dairy Cottage precinct opens another door into the park’s layered history.
Created under the Parramatta Domain Act of 1857, the public park opened a new chapter. Gatehouses, avenues, bridges and pavilions became part of its changing landscape.
A walk by the river. A family picnic. A place to meet, play and pause. What we care for today shapes the park another generation will know.
